The "Hoya 92" golf events were launched by Joe Riley in the early 2000's as a means to gather his fellow Georgetown Hoya classmates in a central location to enjoy a few rounds of golf and the early rounds of the NCAA basketball tournament. The Hoya 92 was held annually at resorts and golf courses in and around Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for several consecutive years (except the year of Gary Valente's bachelor party in Las Vegas). After a lone west coast visit to Scottsdale, Arizona sometime in the 2010's, the tournament returned to Myrtle Beach for a brief couple of years, before Georgetown basketball tanked, interest waned, and the tournament was ultimately abandoned.
In 2024, Michael Pappas relaunched the Hoya 92 back in Myrtle Beach at Legends Golf Resort, and then in 2025 Graig Suvannavejh, TJ Mattimore, and Perry DeLuca relocated the tournament to Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, where it has been held ever since.
